The GFA is a charity for families living in Britain, who have adopted or are in the process of adopting children from Guatemala. Our primary goal is to support internationally adopted Guatemalan children, now living in Britain, actively to keep a connection with and understand their roots and Guatemalan culture. We are also happy to help, with our own experiences, those in the process of Guatemalan adoption.

How to Join

The GFA is a charity for families living in Britain, who have adopted or are in the process of adopting children from Guatemala. Our primary goal is to actively support internationally adopted Guatemalan children, now living in Britain, to keep a connection with and understand their roots and Guatemalan culture.

  • The subscription fee for 2010 is £30.
  • There is also a reduced fee option of £20 which is explained below:
The £30 subscription fee is made up of two components: £20 goes towards the running costs of the GFA and £10 which is donated direct to the GFA chosen charities.

Since the Guatemalan charities supported by the GFA are making excellent use of the money donated by GFA members and are always in need of more, we hope that GFA members will continue to support this charity-giving component of the GFA subscription fee. All members are free to make their own choice.

We are also happy to help, with our own experiences, those in the process of Guatemalan adoption. We also raise money for the benefit of Guatemala communities, to provide relief from financial hardship and social and or economic disadvantage, to relieve sickness and preserve health and to advance the education of its people.

There are over 150 family members. With the current situation in Guatemala we don’t expect this number to grow. However, membership provides a unique channel of communication with other families all over the United Kingdom (and some abroad) who have adopted from Guatemala and who share a wide variety of post-adoption experiences and resources in areas such as health, education, Guatemalan contacts, travel, cultural traditions and many more.

As a member you will:

  • Receive copies of our newsletter “La Aurora”,
  • invitations to regular social events

You will also have access to the member’s section of our website which provides a wealth of information, useful links and a forum for sharing a wide variety of experiences and resources relevant to the adoption journey and parenting generally.

Members also have the option to be included on, and to receive a membership list, to facilitate their contact with other Guatemalan adopters.

A standing order form is available below for ease of payment.

When completing your membership form (including renewals), please also complete the gift aid form. This will allow us to claim back 25p in the pound from Inland Revenue and benefit the work we do through our chosen charities for families in Guatemala.

As part of your membership you will be registered with the GFA eGroup and regularly be sent emails. If you do not wish to receive these please tick the relevant box on the application form.

If you wish to pay by cheque please complete the downloadable forms below and enclose a cheque for the correct amount (UK banks only).
